Portait Photography

My Approach

My approach to portrait photography is rooted in authenticity and connection. I believe that the best portraits emerge when my subjects are comfortable and genuinely themselves. Whether it's a heartfelt family portrait, a compelling headshot, or a romantic engagement session, I strive to create an atmosphere where you can relax, express yourself, and let your true personality shine.

How do I prepare for a portrait photoshoot?

Before our session, we'll discuss your ideas and preferences for the shoot. What is the theme? Are there any props or outfits that you should bring? Typically it's up to the subject to provide these, but it's my job to capture your expression of yourself in the portrait session.

What locations are suitable for a portrait session?

This is another topic we can discuss beforehand. I have shot at many different locations both on the island and off. I can provide an indoor studio set up, or suggestions for outdoor locations if needed.

What is the best time of day for an outdoor photoshoot?

Depending on your theme and ideas for the session, I can offer suggestions for the best time of day. My years of experience have provided me with the expertise in outdoor lighting. I also use professional tools to track the movement of the sun in the case that these will be affected by, or part of our session.

How long will the photoshoot take?

A typical portrait session takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour to capture a wide variety of poses and moments to choose from.

What should I expect during the photoshoot?

We'll meet at the chosen location and briefly discuss specific areas of the location that look the most interesting. Depending on the types of photos you're looking for (business headshots, family photos, etc) we'll take a variety of shots with different poses and backdrops, and in the case of family photos we want to make sure the family has a chance to have fun together while I capture the unscripted moments that mean everything.

How many photos will I receive, and when can I expect them?

For family photo sessions you will receive 15-20 fully edited photos, as this is the average number of poses we take in the 45-60 minute session.  If we get even more great shots you will be able to choose up to 20 of your favourites from a gallery, or choose to purchase additional photos.

Can I request specific edits or retouching for my photos?

We try to keep retouching at a minimum as we want to ensure your photos represent you and your family correctly.  We'll remove stray hairs/lint etc, but if there are specific blemishes, etc that you'd like removed we can accommodate that as well.

What happens if the weather is unfavorable for an outdoor photoshoot?

If the weather doesn't co-operate on the day of our photoshoot, we can discuss alternative locations, or arrange a different available date at no extra cost.

Can I bring family members or pets to the photoshoot?

Clients can absolutely bring other family members, children, or even pets to the session if needing emotional support. If you would like to include them in the portraits, there may be additional charges depending on how many additional photos are taken.

What if I'm not comfortable in front of the camera?

We pride ourselves in making you as comfortable as possible.  We welcome you bringing friends, partners, or family members for support, and happy to discuss any concerns you might have in the moment.

What should I do if I need to reschedule or cancel the photoshoot?

If life gets in the way and you need to reschedule, we can discuss other available dates in our calendar at no additional cost.  If you wish to cancel your session, the up-front deposit is non-refundable but any additional payment received ahead of the date will be refunded.

Can I bring outfit changes, props, or specific ideas for poses or themes?

Please do! You're welcome to incorporate their own creative ideas or personal items into the photoshoot.  If you could give me a heads up or other notice of that, just to ensure clear communication and so I know what to expect the day of the session, that would be excellent.  Depending on number of props/outfits, the may be an additional cost for extra time and number of final photos.

What are the payment and pricing details for the portrait session?

We prefer Interac eTransfer, but also have the option of debit and credit card payments, and Apple Pay/Google Pay.

How can I use the photos once I receive them?

You will receive high resolution versions of your final photos that you can use to make prints for personal use or for your family and friends, as well as smaller versions for sharing on personal social media.
If you wish to use photos for commercial/advertising purposes we can discuss additional license costs.
